Itching is a common complaint with hemorrhoids. There are a number of creams, gels and ointments on the drugstore shelves that will relieve this itching which, if indulged by the victim, can cause an infection.  Dabbing external piles with a cotton ball soaked in witch hazel is extremely useful, since the substance causes blood vessels to shrink down.

Other elements to stop further recurrences are losing weight, no heavy lifting, taking the pressure from the area that gravity creates by resting and also soaking your bottom in plain warm water.
