Nobody likes those pesky dripping faucets, clogged drains and backed up toilets. But although your friendly neighborhood Prescott plumbers would be glad to repair them for you, there are some things you might want to try first. Try these handy plumbing tips to help keep those pipes, drains or toilets from acting up, or fix them quickly if they do…
#1. Don’t ever pour grease, powdered detergents and the like into your drain line, as this will cause your line to back up and can be costly to repair.
#2. If your garbage disposal isn’t working, try pushing the “reset” button several times while the disposal is set in the “on” position.
#3. Water pressure low in the sink or bathroom faucet? If it’s only low in one faucet in the house, then you may have a clogged up aerator. Just unscrew from the end of the faucet, remove the debris and screw back on. Pretty simple, eh?
#4. When your toilet is clogged and the old plunger just isn’t working, you can often correct the problem using a plumber’s snake. These are relatively inexpensive (especially compared to calling a plumber) and available at most hardware or large grocery stores.
#5. Will that toilet ever stop running? Usually, this problem occurs when the float is rising too high. Try this: Open the lid on the tank and check the float. To keep it from rising so high, bend the rod downward a bit to lower the float. This will typically solve the problem.
Bonus tip: Preventative maintenance can be your best friend. Annual inspection of both the indoor and external plumbing is highly recommended. Many major problems that cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars can be avoided or reduced with a little care.
Remeber, if you do need to hire a plumber, be sure to use a licensed plumbing contractor. This prudent measure can protect you from many possible problems and additional expenses And should you be in our area, we’d love to be of service for all your Prescott plumbing needs.
